Als onderdeel van de wereldpremière tour screenen we deze film, gemaakt door Annegriet Wietsma, die vanavond ook aanwezig zal zijn.
Meer en meer wordt de Amsterdamse binnenstad omgetoverd tot één grote geldmachine. Héél de binnenstad? NEE!! Een klein stadsdorpje blijft moedig weerstand bieden. Beschermd door een ideologie van antimaterialisme, weigeren deze wereldverbeteraars te bezwijken onderde druk van de hen omringende hebzucht en gentrificatie.
In Vrankrix en het Amst€rdamse rijk duikt de regisseur in de anarchistische, activistische underground-scene in de binnenstad van Amsterdam: het bolwerk Vrankrijk, met op de bovenverdiepingen 19 bewoners en op de begane grond een radicaal-politiek ontmoetingscentrum voor activisten uit West-Europa. Hiphop, punk, queer, de vluchtelingenproblematiek, do-it-yourself, solidariteit, anarcho’s, deeleconomie, veganisme, globalisme, alles komt samen in deze kleine microkosmos. Deze ontmoetingsplek, die hier nog als een van de weinige laatste bastions stand houdt, vormt een schril contrast met de hen inmiddels letterlijk omringende stad in transitie: buren die verdwijnen, drommen toeristen, vijfsterrenhotels, luxeappartementen, het duurdere winkelsegment. Het ‘dorpje van barbaren’ raakt letterlijk steeds geïsoleerder. Maak kennis met Autonomix, Dynamix, Easyfix, Nononsex, Cockadoodledix, Tattootix en Globalixa in hun gevecht tegen de aanbidding van het grote geld.
De strip Asterix en de Romeinse Lusthof is inspiratiebron voor Vrankrix en het Amst€rdamse rijk: het kleine Gallische dorpje dat omringd dreigt te raken door Romeinse hoogbouw met hotels, thermen, speelpaleizen en toeristen.

The subcultural meeting point Vrankrijk is one of the last strongholds resisting the tide in the ever-growing affluence of trendy Amsterdam. The film Vrankrix and the Amsterdam €nrichment offers a light-hearted glimpse into live in the stronghold Vrankrijk in downtown Amsterdam. Vrankrijk not only houses 19 residents on its upper floors, but the ground floor is also a core meeting point for international activists and politically radical ideas. Hiphop, punk, queer, refugee issues, do-it-yourself, solidarity, anarchists, sharing economy, veganism, globalization: it all comes together in this micro cosmos.
The anarchist community of activists stands in stark contrast with the rest of the city, that is in obvious transition: more and more five-star hotels, luxury condos, shiny shopping malls, busloads of tourists… and neighbors who are moving away to flee from it
all. The 'village of savages’ is literally becoming more isolated in its fight against their surroundings – people who are proudly resisting the creeping gentrification in the city they love. Please meet Autonomix, Dynamix, Easyfix, Nononsex, Cockadoodledix,
Tattootix and Globalixa and their resistance against the worshipping of big money.
The comic book of Asterix and the Mansions of the Gods has served as a source of inspiration for Vrankrix and the Amsterdam €nrichment: the mere existence of a small Gallic village becomes jeopardized by the Roman high-rise construction of hotels,
thermal baths, playgrounds and tourists.
